The 'Animal House' was a clubhouse in the centre of Harlingen from 1987 to 1990, frequented by all sorts of people, each with their own tall tales to tell. Friendship, humour and the sometimes extraordinary adventures of its regulars were at the heart of the clubhouse. Their stories have been brought together in this book. Many of these absurd and comical events actually happened.
After arriving in Sydney, they went in search of the famous opera house the city had to offer. According to Kees, the building looked like the deformed claws of a sloth. Inside the building, they wandered through all sorts of corridors, rooms and doors until they found themselves standing behind a large curtain. The three of them started singing to find out whether they would sound any better than they did in the events hall in Harlingen. They failed to notice that the curtain behind them was opening. They sang Harlingen mien stadsje, followed by a few songs by Frans de Bouwer and André Haasje. Thanks to the magnificent acoustics, their singing echoed throughout the great hall.
